A new feature for Lonely Planet Traveller magazine covering the fascinating island of Sicily, from Mount Etna’s volcanic slopes to the black beaches of the Aeolian Islands.

It also includes sections on Palermo’s food culture, the chic style of Taormina and Scicli’s baroque architecture.

There is also a handy ‘Make It Happen’ section on general travel in Sicily, with recommendations on places to stay, where to eat and what to see around the rest of the island.

The story is one of the lead features of the February 2014 issue of the magazine, and features lots of beautiful photos by my longstanding friend and colleague, Matt Munro, who’s recently come back from a round-the-world trip to celebrate Lonely Planet’s 40th birthday.

The article was republished in Australia by The Age.
